According to estimates from Statista's Market Insights, the total worldwide cost of cybercrime exceeded $8,000 billion in 2023, a 15% year-on-year increase. Forecasts by cybersecurity market analysts indicate that this figure is set to continue growing at the same rate this year, reaching over $9,000 billion.
Focus on the most affected countries:
China: More than $1,200 billion in 2023, the highest cost in the world.
United States: Around $320 billion.
Germany: Nearly $120 billion.
France: Estimated at $90 billion last year, with a notable increase to over $100 billion today.
Focus on France:
In 2016, the cost of cybercrime was estimated at $5.1 billion. This figure has exploded over the past eight years, with an average increase of over 30% per year. In 2024, costs are projected at $129 billion (around €119 billion).
Alarming statistics:
Last year, nearly one in two French companies suffered a cyberattack resulting in a significant impact. Cyber espionage represents a high risk for two out of five companies, across all sectors.
The authors of the 2024 CESIN report highlight “the growing complexity of the cybersecurity landscape, with attackers adjusting their tactics”. These developments call for heightened vigilance and continued investment in robust cybersecurity infrastructures.
